Attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist

About Me

I am an experienced attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist, registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy under the Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis. After completing my Psychology degree, I completed an in-depth and rigorous four year clinical training and qualified as an attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Bowlby Centre, London.

I bring experience of working with the Red Cross in refugee programs and of different types of therapy, including those involving art and groups. I have worked with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, unstable relationships, unable to regulate their own emotions, bereavement, sexual identity issues, childhood sexual abuse, self-harm, suicidality, eating disorder, addiction, obsessive compulsive symptoms, agoraphobia, arson, and dissociative identity disorder.

About Therapy

Psychotherapy provides a safe space to emotionally explore one’s life, both conscious and unconscious, difficulties and creative resources. Psychotherapy can help people with a number of problems including, but not limited to, depression, worthlessness, low self esteem and feelings of being stuck, anxiety, the aftermath of a difficult experience, relationship difficulties, domestic abuse, workplace difficulties and the effects of childhood abuse or neglect in adulthood. I work from a psychoanalytic perspective with an attachment–based focus. My work brings together a focus on your internal world and unconscious processes, which helps you gain insight and understanding, as well as dedicated attention to the quality of the relationship between me and my client. By providing this secure base, clients have the opportunity to share experiences and feelings they may not have been able to talk about before. A secure, therapeutic relationship makes it possible for people to explore the impact of important relationships and mourn past losses - so that healing of early experiences of misattunement, separation and trauma can take place. I have a passion for my work; helping my clients make these longed-for changes. In developing greater self understanding and self acceptance, and crucially, letting go of negative, self-punishing thoughts and behaviours, the freedom to reach their full potential becomes possible.

What to Expect

WHAT WILL THE FIRST SESSION BE LIKE?

I will offer you an initial 60 minute consultation, which gives us the opportunity to begin to get to know each other, and for you to have a sense of how it is to work with me. In this first meeting, I’d like to learn what brings you to therapy, what you'd like to gain from it, and any hopes and worries you may have about your past, present, or future. I'd like to know something about your family history and your current situation. At the end of the consultation, if you decide you’d like to continue, we’ll agree to meet for ongoing sessions.

HOW DO FUTURE SESSIONS WORK?

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are arranged at the same time and day of the week, and are usually once, twice or three times a week.

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY LAST?

There isn’t a fixed answer to this question, as it will very much depend on the issues you want to address. Therapy may last for months or for a number of years, depending on your individual needs and what you are hoping to gain from it. Shorter term therapy may be more appropriate to deal with a specific issue or situation. However, many clients have experienced challenges over many years and value a long- term approach, which gives us the opportunity to work at depth, and for long lasting changes to take hold.

Fees

Initial consultation (60 mins) - £80
Standard fee (50 mins) - £70 - £80 per session.
Fees may vary depending on your income. Concessions for low income may be available.

The sessions are 50 minutes in length and take place at the same time on the same day each week.

If you need to cancel a session, I will do my best to reschedule it for that week. If we are unable to find a new time, you still need to pay for the missed session, as I will have reserved the time and space for you.
